ELK GROVE — A 78-year-old Elk Grove woman died after a suspected DUI crash on Elk Grove Boulevard late Thursday night, the Sacramento County Coroner and Elk Grove police said Friday.
The coroner identified the victim as Barbara Lee Jury. The collision occurred shortly after 9 p.m. near Stonelake Club Drive, when, according to Elk Grove Police Department investigators, a silver sedan traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lane and struck Jury's white sedan head-on.
What happened and who was involved
Police said the westbound vehicle hit the center median before going airborne and colliding with the eastbound vehicle. The silver sedan then came to rest overturned on its side in the median. Jury died at the scene.

Police say the surviving driver, a sole occupant of the silver sedan, was taken to a hospital with major injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening. The 51-year-old woman may face charges as the investigation continues and her medical condition allows, police said.

Local impacts and response
Elk Grove Boulevard was closed in both directions through the night while investigators processed the scene. Neighbors reported hearing and seeing extensive vehicle damage; police described the white sedan as having major damage to its roof, windshield and driver's side.
Jury’s family has requested privacy, officials said. The Elk Grove Police Department continues to investigate the collision. Residents who witnessed the hit-and-run or the later crash, or who have dashcam footage from Elk Grove Boulevard between Franklin Boulevard and Stonelake Club Drive around 9 p.m. Thursday, are asked to contact the department to assist the inquiry.
This incident adds to ongoing local concerns about impaired driving and roadway safety on busy corridors in Elk Grove. Police have not released the identity of the surviving driver.
