The City of Killeen Parks and Recreation Department will host a Senior Prom titled “Blooming Memories” on Thursday, July 17, for residents age 55 and older. The event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, 3601 S. W.S. Young Drive.
What attendees can expect
Organizers describe the evening as an opportunity for older residents to enjoy an elegant night of dancing, fellowship and music. The prom theme is inspired by cherry blossoms and glowing lanterns. Planned features include a catered dinner, photo opportunities, raffle prizes and the crowning of a Senior Prom King and Queen.
“This event is one of our favorite traditions because it allows our seniors to celebrate life's special moments together,” said Kathryn Winston, Senior Center Manager for the Killeen Parks and Recreation Department.
Winston encouraged residents to attend whether they come with a spouse, a friend or by themselves, and urged participants to dress for the occasion. Organizers stressed that walk-up admission will not be accepted; due to limited seating, advance RSVP and tickets are required.
Why this matters locally
Events such as the Senior Prom offer social connection and recreational programming tailored to Killeen’s older residents. For families and caregivers, the prom provides a supervised, city-supported opportunity for seniors to engage in community life, an important complement to other Parks and Recreation services.
