LEWISVILLE, Texas — Authorities in Denton County launched an investigation Friday after a passerby found a deceased fetus along the shoreline of Lewisville Lake, the Lewisville Police Department said.

Discovery and initial investigation

Officers responded about 8 a.m. to a report near Lake Park Road and secured the scene while investigators from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted in evidence collection, the department said. The area has since been cleared.

The medical examiner estimated the fetus to be roughly five to six months of gestation. Authorities said initial observations suggest the remains were intentionally discarded along the shoreline; the medical examiner’s office will complete further examination to determine identity and other characteristics.
