TUCSON — A new German restaurant and beer garden is opening on Tucson’s west side this week, bringing traditional recipes and a patio-centered design to the Silverbell Road commercial stretch.
From Neu-Ulm to Silverbell: owners put down roots
The business, Biergarten Tucson, will open at 1 p.m. Friday, June 5, at 2320 N. Silverbell Rd., Suite 110, taking over the former Famous Sam’s space. Owners Silke and Andre Linke — who grew up in Neu-Ulm, Germany — said they sold their house in Germany and invested fully in the Tucson venture.
Inside, the restaurant occupies roughly 2,900 square feet and is laid out to emphasize communal dining and bar service. The Linkes leaned into Tucson’s sun and outdoor life when they planned the space: a prominent patio, shaded seating and an overall beer-garden atmosphere aimed at summer gatherings.
What’s on the menu and who it’s for
The menu is built around traditional German dishes rather than the American bar standards often found in local gastropubs. The owners said they want to introduce Tucson diners to classics such as schnitzel and spaetzle, and to provide German expatriates, veterans and others with ties to Germany a familiar taste.
“We sold our house in Germany and [went] all in,” Andre said.
The couple described a goal of creating a little green and a sense of nostalgia for patrons with German backgrounds, while inviting curious diners to try unfamiliar dishes. No tacos, no burgers, the owners said — the focus will be on old-school German cooking.
Capacity and layout
Biergarten Tucson’s seating is spread between indoor and outdoor spaces. The configuration gives the restaurant a modest footprint but an emphasis on social seating and bar service.
| Area | Seats |

Local context and what to expect
The new spot joins a wave of independent and ethnic restaurants that have opened in Tucson in recent years, adding variety to a dining scene long known for Mexican and Sonoran influences. For west-side residents, Biergarten Tucson provides an option for communal outdoor dining without crossing to the downtown core.
- Opening: 1 p.m., Friday, June 5
- Address: 2320 N. Silverbell Rd., Suite 110
- Concept: Traditional German beer garden and restaurant
For now, the owners emphasize traditional menu items and an atmosphere meant to echo the German summer beer garden — an approach that leans on Tucson’s sunny climate and a neighborhood appetite for outdoor gathering spaces. Patrons curious about authentic German dishes will find a local place to try them without leaving the city.
