PEORIA — Peoria Unified School District officials said Friday that police have finished gathering records at the district’s Administration Center and returned the building to district control after a search tied to an ongoing sexual misconduct investigation.
Investigation tied to two former teachers
The search is part of a Peoria police probe involving Angela Burlaka and Haley Beck, both former teachers at Centennial High School who were dismissed following allegations that they engaged in sexual conduct with the same teenage boy. No arrests or criminal charges have been announced.
The district praised officers for limiting disruption while conducting the work and reiterated it will keep cooperating with law enforcement.
“[We will] continue to cooperate fully and provide investigators what they need to conduct a complete and thorough investigation.”
District concerns and timing
Peoria Unified also sought to clarify earlier remarks about a second search warrant served July 6. The district said its concern was not with the investigators but with the effect the second warrant had on preparations for the start of the school year.
According to the district, it had complied with the requirements of an initial warrant served May 28 and continued to identify and turn over additional records. The July 6 warrant, the district said, requested records beyond the scope of the first and included materials the district believed it could provide directly to investigators. Officials said their frustration stemmed from how the additional search impacted staff and planning as schools approach opening day.
- Two former Centennial High teachers are at the center of the investigation.
- Peoria police executed at least two warrants: one May 28 and another July 6.
- District returned building to its control after police finished work.
Public meeting, school schedule
The district announced it will hold a public meeting on July 16 to allow community members to discuss the week’s events. The first day of classes is scheduled for Aug. 3. District officials said they appreciated the professionalism of officers during the search and stressed ongoing cooperation with investigators.
Peoria police did not disclose whether they removed materials while executing the search warrant. For families watching the case closely, the upcoming public meeting will be the first formal opportunity to raise questions directly with district leaders as the community awaits more information from law enforcement.
