The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department confirmed Thursday that 10-year-old Jackson S. Georgari, who left his home while sleepwalking, was found deceased in a pond near Briarcliff Village.
What happened
Jackson was last seen at about midnight in the 1100 block of Northwest Vivion Road, wearing a gray T-shirt and gray shorts, police said. Authorities located his body in a pond approximately half a mile from where he went missing. Fire crews attempted resuscitation at the scene, but Jackson was declared dead there, the department said.
Investigation and next steps
The case has been turned over to an active death investigation, a standard procedure, and police said there are currently no signs of foul play. The medical examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death once the examination is complete.
Search effort and community response
Authorities conducted a large search that included K-9 units and drones, which continued through the morning until Jackson's body was located. Police thanked the agencies that assisted in the search effort.
“Come and support the family because they need our support and prayers,”
said Gabriel Riak, the family's pastor, urging the community to offer support.
Family members told reporters Jackson had a history of sleepwalking and that the family recently moved to the Kansas City area from San Diego. His sister described previous incidents in which he left home while sleepwalking and was found by others.
