SANTA ANA — A motorcyclist died after a two-vehicle collision on First Street at Center Street just after 7 a.m. on July 14, the Santa Ana Police Department said.
Police identified the victim as Calvin Williams, 43, of Costa Mesa. Officers who responded to the scene found Williams with major upper-body trauma; despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the department.
What officials say and what changes for residents
Detectives determined Williams was riding eastbound on First Street when a nearby car changed lanes and struck the motorcycle, throwing the rider into the roadway. The driver of the car is cooperating with the investigation, the department said. At this time, officers do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor.
The collision underscores ongoing traffic safety concerns on busy Santa Ana corridors during morning commute hours. Residents who travel through the area should expect increased traffic enforcement and possible short-term investigative closures if officers return to the scene.
