TOPEKA, Kan. — A man was rescued from the Kansas River on the north edge of downtown Topeka in the early hours of Friday, city officials said.
The incident was reported at approximately 5:03 a.m. in the area of the 100 block of N.E. Crane Street, on the river's south side, according to Topeka police and fire officials.
What happened
Officers responding to the call learned that a fisherman on the riverbank had spotted an individual in the water, Topeka police spokeswoman Kimberly Qualls said. Topeka Fire Department crews performed a water rescue and removed the man from the river.
"The man was safely removed from the river before being transported by American Medical Response ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation," Qualls said.
There were no immediate reports of serious injuries, and additional details were not available Friday morning, Qualls said.
