Imax China and Chinese audio-visual firm Goer Dynamics have announced a strategic partnership to create what the companies call the first IMAX-branded in-vehicle entertainment system, targeting premium automakers in China with commercial production expected later this year.
System designed for the moving cabin
The package pairs a proprietary IMAX acoustic architecture engineered for ultra-high dynamic range and robust, low-frequency performance with a 4K HDR flip-down display. The visual component incorporates custom imaging technologies and an ambient-light adaptation feature intended to preserve picture quality as lighting conditions change while on the road. Companies say the hardware will be offered in modular configurations to suit different vehicle tiers and speaker arrangements.
Partners and pedigree
Goer Dynamics, founded in 2020 under the wider Goer Group, brings established ties to the automotive sector: the company reports having installed its in-car audio-visual systems in nearly three million new energy vehicles to date and counts brands such as Dynaudio and Libratone among its portfolio. The IMAX participant in the deal is Imax China, the Hong Kong-listed subsidiary of Imax Corp.
"With the advent of autonomous driving, we believe car buyers will increasingly focus on immersive entertainment systems in their purchase decisions and we are excited to work with Goer Group — a premier manufacturing partner to some of the world’s biggest technology companies — to capture that opportunity," said Daniel Manwaring, CEO of Imax China.
- Audio: IMAX proprietary acoustic design, high-powered low-frequency performance.
- Video: 4K HDR flip-down screen with intelligent ambient-light adaptation.
- Deployment: Modular configurations for multiple vehicle platforms and price points.
What this means for entertainment and autos
The collaboration represents a deliberate push by IMAX to extend its brand beyond theatrical exhibition into other experiential platforms, aligning cinematic-quality audio and imaging with in-cabin entertainment. For automakers, especially in markets prioritizing high-end experiences, the system offers a branded alternative for vehicles where passengers expect premium media presentation.
| Feature | Purpose |
|---|---|
| IMAX acoustic architecture | High dynamic range and low-distortion bass |
| 4K HDR flip-down display | High-resolution viewing suited to varying cabin light |
| Modular configurations | Adaptable across vehicle classes |
The partnership will be watched closely by content owners, hardware makers and automakers as their industries intersect. With production planned for later this year, the rollout will offer an early test of how much consumer demand exists for branded, cinema-grade media experiences inside the car.
