OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska Adaptive Sports will host the 50th USA Wheelchair Softball World Series in Omaha this August, organizers confirmed. The tournament typically draws about 18 to 20 teams from across the United States and marks the fourth time Nebraska has welcomed the event.
What residents should know
The World Series is an adaptive version of softball designed for athletes who use wheelchairs. It uses slow-pitch, underhand pitching and a larger softball so players do not need gloves while pushing their chairs during play. Games are played 10 versus 10, and teams are organized by different classes of disability.

Local impact and community ties
Nebraska Adaptive Sports runs programs that enable people with disabilities to play organized sports, and hosting the World Series brings national exposure and economic activity to Omaha. The tournament gives local volunteers, family members and businesses opportunities to support adaptive athletics and connect with athletes from other states.
“This our fourth time in Nebraska hosting the World Series, which is all the teams across the country, usually about 18 to 20, come in to play,” said Nebraska Adaptive Sports President Brent Rasmussen.
Players and organizers stress that the sport is not merely recreational but a source of community and rehabilitation for many participants. Morgan Prusha, a player featured by KETV, described how wheelchair softball helped after a life-changing motorcycle accident.
“These guys have lifted me in areas that I didn't even know existed,” Prusha said. “Going out with friends that are a whole new community and a whole different outlook on life, where you thought you weren't going to be able to do a lot of these things, and it's really opened up a new chapter.”
How to get involved
Organizers encourage volunteers, local adaptive-sports supporters and spectators to engage with the event. Hosting duties typically involve venue preparation, game-day operations and accessibility planning. Nebraska Adaptive Sports is the coordinating organization and will provide details on schedules, volunteer sign-ups and spectator information as the event date approaches.
