Chicago police say 12 people were struck by gunfire across the city during a series of separate incidents overnight, leaving multiple victims hospitalized and at least one person dead.

Multiple scenes, widespread impact

Officers responded to shootings in several neighborhoods in the early hours of the morning. The incidents were not believed to be connected, and detectives from area units are investigating each scene, the Chicago Police Department reported.

Among the victims was a 14-year-old boy who was shot several times on the Far West Side and initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a major trauma center; he was listed in fair condition. Another juvenile, a 16-year-old boy, was struck in the right calf while driving during a gathering on the Southwest Side and was taken to an area hospital in fair condition.

Serious injuries near United Center and elsewhere

Near the United Center on the Near West Side, officers found two women shot inside a parked car. A 35-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was hospitalized in critical condition. A 36-year-old woman sustained a graze wound to the head and was listed in good condition. A separate man in the area, 28, suffered a leg wound and self-transported to a hospital in good condition.

Other shootings overnight included:
