LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Five people were shot Tuesday night in the Park Hill neighborhood after investigators say two groups confronted each other near St. Louis Park, prompting a large police response and an ongoing investigation into what authorities describe as an "ongoing dispute" tied to a prior assault.
Incident and response
Officers with Louisville Metro Police Department were dispatched about 10 p.m. to the 2200 block of St. Louis Avenue following reports of gunfire. When first responders arrived, multiple people had sustained gunshot wounds. Officials said several victims were taken to University of Louisville Hospital while others sought care by private means.
"Preliminary investigation shows the shooting stemmed from an 'ongoing dispute' related to a previous assault," police said.
Police described the scene as "large and complex," and said more than 40 officers responded to both the park and UofL Hospital as they worked to process evidence and interview witnesses. No arrests have been reported.

Authorities provided ages and injury details for those known to have been shot:
- 51-year-old woman — gunshot wound, transported to UofL Hospital.
- 50-year-old woman — gunshot wound, transported to UofL Hospital.
- 26-year-old man — gunshot wound, transported to UofL Hospital.
- 22-year-old man — gunshot wound, transported to UofL Hospital.
- 48-year-old woman — grazed by a bullet; did not suffer a penetrating wound.

Police also indicated that one or two additional individuals may have been injured but declined medical attention. Officials said all known victims are expected to survive.

Investigators told reporters the shooting appeared to follow a confrontation between two groups who met in the park. LMPD said the encounter was linked to a previously reported assault but did not provide additional details about that earlier incident.
