The first computerized selection for the Tri-Region E-Bike Incentive Program will be held July 21, giving eligible residents in the Fort Smith metropolitan area and other participating counties a chance to receive vouchers worth as much as $1,200 toward the purchase of a new electric bicycle.
Who can apply and how the drawing works
Registration for the program opened July 6 and will remain open for the duration of the initiative, which organizers expect to run into at least 2027. Residents who sign up prior to each drawing are entered into a computerized random selection; those chosen are invited to complete a second-stage application with documentary proof of eligibility.
- Eligible counties include Sebastian, Crawford and Franklin in Arkansas and Le Flore and Sequoyah in Oklahoma for the Fort Smith metro area.
- Additional participating Arkansas counties include Benton, Faulkner, Grant, Lonoke, Madison, Perry, Pulaski, Saline and Washington.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old to qualify.
People picked in the July 21 selection will have two weeks to submit documentation verifying identity, age and residency. Applicants seeking the higher, income-qualified voucher must also supply proof of income or evidence of enrollment in an approved benefit program such as SNAP, Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income.
Voucher options and program scale
The regional effort, administered by the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission and Metroplan, aims to distribute at least 5,844 vouchers across the Fort Smith, Northwest Arkansas and Little Rock metropolitan statistical areas. Two voucher tiers are available:
